Middle Class Rut
Although in their mid-20s, Middle Class Rut—Zack Lopez (guitar/vox) and Sean Stockham (drums/vox)—are veteran musicians who have been performing together in bands since they were 13 and 14 years old. Following the dissolution of the last band they were in (Leisure) in 2003, Zack and Sean realized that they were meant to write and perform together solely as a two-piece. After sequestering themselves in their studio for several months in 2006, Middle Class Rut played its first official show that December.
Middle Class Rut headed out on its first US tour in Fall 2007 with Receiving End Of Sirens and Envy On The Coast. From the very first show on that tour, the band decimated expectations of what a two-piece should be capable of. Alternative Press wrote up the band’s intense performance, saying “…it’s mind-blowing to witness the sheer depth and complexity of the sound these two guys are capable of unleashing on their own…but once the novelty subsides, you’re left with incendiary post-rock with visible traces of ‘90s alternative.” The Sacramento Bee, in a major feature this past March, declared that “Middle Class Rut gives an intense spin to the adage that “less is more”.”
As interest mounts among music lovers around the country, as well as labels large and small, Middle Class Rut has released a self-titled EP through all major online retailers, available now. The second half of 2008 will see Middle Class Rut touring steadily, including a main stage performance at Live 105’s BFD ’08 event in the Bay Area on June 7th and a national tour in July with the Burning Brides.
