Today, the Brooklyn based vocalist, electronic recording and visual artist, AYER, premieres his new music video for “Digital Fantasy,” an ambitious collaboration with esteemed photographerRick Day and director Steve Benisty. The result is a surreal trek of sexual fantasy through the lens of Rick’s striking portraiture. The song and accompanying video comment on the conflict of perception and reality in a world where sexual fantasies are only a few taps of the phone away.
“‘Digital Fantasy’ was born from an internal conflict,” explains AYER, “the desire to find love organically, in real life, when there is a constant stream of perfectly edited, cropped, and altered headless torsos that one sees on various online forums and apps. Rick, Steve and I looked to Robert Mapplethorpe’s graphic yet classical black and white photography for inspiration as we created the vignettes you see unfold in the video.”
The result of collaborations with an international roster of producers, AYER’s recorded music and live full-band performances infuse nostalgic disco, R&B and electro-pop. April 28th will mark the release of AYER’s independent debut six-track EP, In My Headphones, produced by Bram Inscore [Beck, Devendra Banhart, Sebastian Tellier, Twin Shadow]. The release of In My Headphones follows the staggering online reception of breakout tracks “Circle Down,” the“Circle Down” Keljet remix, and “Black Diamond.” AYER’s music has reached play counts in the millions on Soundcloud and Spotify, and has garnered the attention of Interview Magazine,Billboard, and the Hypem charts. AYER’s digital success quickly translated to open invitations in the LA and Brooklyn music scenes with full-band live performances at premiere club venues sharing bills with Ghost Beach, ASTR, Reptar, Verité, Teen Daze, and MOTHXR.
