Seizing the night became a reality two years ago after a dream. NYC based artist and producer Benta had left behind a successful music career that developed during his teenage years. Through mad scientist sessions with a drum machine, analog synths, and recording hardware, he’s reemerged with an aesthetic that melds indie pop song structures with rugged hip-hop beats. Lyrically, this is a dark catharsis for Benta. He uses music to sublimate his aggression through depicting shadowy snapshots of characters struggling with toxic intra- and inter-personal dynamics.
Noir is a 5-song EP bound to leave listeners wanting more. Of the first single “Lover in Dark”, Neon Gold calls it, “a dark, twisted R&B fantasy of Hollywood pop noir, bursting at the seams with cinematic bravado and ominous grandeur over an escalating groove and rugged hip hop production.” Meanwhile, The IrishTimes says, ““Lover In Dark” is a dubby, trippy blast of pop-noir and a powerful ear-worm.”
Through his use of synth techniques and recording software, Benta teamed up with UK producer and Sneaker Pimps founder, Liam Howe (Lana Del Rey, Marina and the Diamonds, FKA Twigs, and Ellie Goulding) and set out to create an artist aesthetic to match a visual presentation. In the coming months, Benta will present his work as a thoroughly integrated, well-developed, visual presentation. He’s already collaborated on videos with “post-epileptic” photographer and voyeuristic director Marie Wynants, and allied with award-winning visual designer Witchoria for art direction.
