Formed in 2012, Cool Company is a Brooklyn-based Pop/R&B/Hip-Hop writer/producer duo composed of vocalist Yannick Hughes (aka Cool Yan) and producer Matt Fishman (aka Fat Matt). With influences that range from Stevie Wonder to Outkast, they are known for their energetic, infectious grooves and Cool Yan’s versatile and expressive voice.

The duo originally met in their high school choir class back in ’06, and rekindled their musical relationship in 2012 in what would become the birth of Cool Company.  What began as an informal collaboration between the two quickly became real and it was after they listened through their first pass of “Blown Away” (later released on the self-titled Cool Company debut) that they realized there was a genuine connection occurring in their writing process that they should pursue together.

They released their self-titled debut in May of 2013, featuring their first single “Do It Now” and other notable songs “Dive In” and “Oh No”.  The debut release showcases the origins of the duos dynamic writing style, featuring themes ranging from Neo-soul and R&B to straight pop.

Following their debut release, Cool Company spent the next year and a half honing their writing and producing skills together, stockpiling song after song.  During this time they wrote what would become their biggest and most successful song to date, the pop/electro single “Call You Back” (100K+ Spotify streams to date)

Released in November 2014“Call You Back” drew attention to the duo’s mainstream and commercial writing/producing sensibility and ultimately landed the duo an indie publishing deal for the song in Italy & Switzerland via CDF Records.  The single release was accompanied by an ‘in house’ official remix produced by Cool Company’s own Fat Matt, which showed off his prowess in the electronic music genre in addition to his bread and butter skills in Pop/R&B/Hip-Hop.

2015 ushered the release of their most recent project, the feel-good Summer Daze EP, led by the laid-back single “Simple Things” In August and released in full in September 2015. The six-song EP featured more intimate and personal lyrics from Cool Yan and chill, heady production from Fat Matt on the tracks “Sunrise,” “Howling,” “Overload,” and “Sandcastles.”

The Summer Daze EP was further testament to the versatile writing and producing style of the duo, contrasting with the pop-inspired tones of earlier tracks like “Call You Back,” and showing fans another creative side of Cool Company.

In early 2016, producer Fat Matt remixed the song “Howling” off the Summer Daze EP; the duo’s second official ‘in house’ remix.  Continuing to amass new music, the latter half of 2016 brings new singles and a full-length project from Cool Company—that fans of both poppy tracks like “Call You Back” and the chill vibes of the Summer Daze EP alike will appreciate.  June 2016 saw the first official release from Cool Company since September 2015’s Summer Daze EP, in the form of the dance/pop single “Why You Gotta Make Me Do It”.  With this single Cool Company effectively brings back the upbeat/poppy style of “Call You Back” providing a taste of things to come from September 2016’s upcoming full length project [title to be announced soon]. Continuing to develop their dynamic song writing ability, the second single “Slice Of Paradise” is a lush, sensuous soul song, leaning towards a more live sound, with a complex but accessible structure that demands a repeat listen. In the meantime, catch them gigging around NYC as duo or with their impressive 8-piece band.
