Merci Raines was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with music in her blood. Her mother being a singer, she was introduced to band life at an early age. Her only incentive to finish homework was the possibility of tagging along to band rehearsals or any show that would let an eight year old through the door. She wrote poems and short stories but it wasn’t until high school she began attempting to put the words to music.
Later, while studying Psychology for her undergraduate degree, she decided to make the move to New Orleans. She heavily credits the city and it’s diverse character for inspiration in her music. It was here that she discovered a true music scene and decided she would fully pursue a career in music. She joined a local indie rock band and toured briefly before branching off to start her journey as a solo artist.
In 2016, Merci Raines headed to New York teaming up with producers Elliot Jacobson and Chris Leon, but not without taking her gritty southern roots and influence along. The collaboration resulted in a five song EP that will be released in 2017.
