LA based rock band Troup will release their sophomore EP Mercury and Gold on October 21st, 2016. Combining lead singer Alex Troup’s searing lyrics with the band’s charged sound, Mercury and Gold is poised to leave an indelible mark amongst fans of both classic and modern rock. As Impose Magazine says of the title single, “it’s pure rock…complete with that characteristic croon that we have come to know and love from Alex Troup” while The Dish declares, “this raw-edged guitar track that reminds me of lots of unapologetic rock acts of the ’70s, not least because Troup has a Mick Jagger sneer to his singing”.
Alex cut his teeth as frontman of Brit pop-punks Crashland, playing with the likes of Coldplay and Queens of the Stone Age in the U.K. while forging a reputation for incendiary live performances.
After transplanting to Los Angeles, he met producer and keyboard player Evan Beigel while browsing the vinyl bins at Amoeba Records. With a shared love of classic 70s rock, analog synths, and Brit pop, they formed Troup in 2012 and started recording their debut album, Last Chance for Romance which received spins on KCRW, KCSN, and BBC Radio, etc. Of Mercury and Gold, Alex says, “After our last record, which was more of a break-up record with lots of acoustic guitar, I wanted to get back to my first loves: electric guitar and rock ‘n’ roll”.
